Monica Morgan

After a failed marriage at a very early age, I dusted myself off and focused on ballet school with the hopes of owning my own dance studio one day.  I worked the graveyard shift at a restaurant as a waitress in order to attend ballet school during the day.   To my surprise, I was accepted into the Omaha Ballet and began what would become a 15-year career as a professional dancer.  When the move to Los Angeles to become famous didn’t pan out, I got a job as a magician’s assistant in a show in Las Vegas which led to numerous jobs as a professional dancer/showgirl.  I’ve performed in many of the large production type shows in the hotels on the Las Vegas strip and  I even went to Japan for a 12-week stint!

90’s – 00’s

Knowing that I couldn’t dance forever, I moved to L.A. and took a class at UCLA in post-production for film and television. While there, I got a job as a secretary at an audio adr/foley recording studio.   I returned to Las Vegas and went back to dancing while I simultaneously opened my first business: Montage Video Productions.  My plan was to make video “audition” tapes  for my fellow entertainer friends.  Eventually, I became the queen of wedding videography in Las Vegas and was doing great.  I realized during that time that I had a knack for marketing.

After a burglary that put me out of business, I went back to dancing for a short time, but it was when I took a job at a video production house and began writing scripts for commercials and designing print advertising that marketing skills were further developed.

Then, in 1995 I went back to the wedding industry and took a position as the executive producer of a local wedding television show and shortly after opened Morgan Marketing Group (to make websites) and, (an extremely successful wedding directory website).  I taught myself everything I could about website design, HTML and PhotoShop and had a very successful business for nearly 16 years.

Around 2010 I had to close the business and due to the economy and take a job as a website/graphic artist for a company that manufacturers air duct cleaning equipment.  It was during this time I really honed my graphic arts skills even further.

I left that job and re-opened my website design business first as Morgan Marketing Group 2.0 and now as Websites by Monica which is under the umbrella business license that I share with my mother; Purple Fox Designs.

When things need to be done, I do them.  It’s really the only way you can be self-employed successfully and I opened my first website design studio in 1998 so I’d say I’m successful.

From an early age, I have always had one sort of business event or another in my head.  I baked cookies and made custom dancewear for extra money in when I worked as a professional dancer.

Creativity runs in my family, both my grandfather and my mother are artists and so it was just a natural instinct for me to gravitate towards a field in graphics and design.
